[ADMIN] Forever behind...

I was this close to catching up in mid-February.

Then a lightning storm moved over my house and killed my computer. Straight murdered my sweet old machine.

Took me a few weeks to attempt solving the problem by replacing parts, failing, trying to rescue my hard drive off it, failing, getting a new computer, discovering a second drive on the old computer, buying the gear to hook that up to the new computer, and rescuing my whole life off that drive.

Then just been trying to settle into the new computer and figure out replacement programs for my Adobe stuff (Fuck the subscription model. I was using CS5 for nearly 20 years!) and feeling very out of sorts about everything.

But I'm nearly getting back to something normal now.

And will again attempt to catch up.

Had too many things to do last month and was too depressed to do them. 😆

Basically just forfeited posting anything during November. But then I figured I'd try to start fresh with December and retroactively add in November music a little bit at a time going forward. We'll see if I can keep up with a more normal rhythm again.

[ADMIN] A slooooow note and Happy Chuseok!

Not that this matters at all... this is purely a personal project... but just wanted to note this for my record if nothing else. I started falling behind readily right around the time of a certain election at the end of last year. Worst case scenario stuff here in the US. And I unsurprisingly have been quite despondent ever since. Tired all the time. Can't bring myself to be motivated to keep up with my normal routines. Nine months in and it's exactly as hellish as I assumed it would be. And I'm sure it will get much worse.

Anyway. I'm just going to be slow with posting. Haven't done any Monthly playlists since January. So yeah, I'll go slow and catch up when I have the energy to. And not fret about it overly much. And try to not disintegrate into a dusty pile of despair in the meantime.

[ADMIN] Slow start to the year!

I was so badly burnt out by the end of last year I took some weeks to decompress and chill. Barely kept up with music in 2024 with my attention pulled in too many directions, so I was behind anyway. And then also just recognizing that the political situation is psychologically crushing me at the moment. 😬

Trying to find the energy and to develop a plan to catch up. All of this is purely pressure I'm putting on myself, so who cares! But I wanna keep going, dang it! So I'll get there... eventually.

[ADMIN] Itaewon...

Caught up with a bunch of stuff released in the last couple weeks to take my mind off of following the news. So heartbroken. So much young life stopped short. My deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones. Wishing quick healing to the injured.

The industry will be slow for a little while. The national period of mourning is through the 5th of November, so a lot of comebacks and scheduled content will be cancelled or postponed until then.

For those celebrating Halloween, please be careful out there. Stay safe and look after each other. ❤

Election stress over the last week messed me up good. Lol.
A lot was released since before Halloween, so I'll be gradually posting to catch up.

 It's wildfire season here and boooooy we are really going through it this year! I had to evacuate for a couple days and it was an overall extremely stressful experience. Came close to losing my home. Gonna take some time to recover while still being on high alert for weather and new fires. Oof. Anyway, I'll be updating posts slowly. I might start with the bigger name releases and then gradually backlog everything else. We'll see. Baby steps. :)

Decided to get up-to-date on MVs because I needed a distraction with the news of Goo Hara's passing, but I will probably be taking a break from posting for the rest of the week. ❤

[ADMIN] Quick update...

Once again, California is on fire. Just like two years ago, I've been in close proximity to a massive wildfire. PG&E has been doing these preventative power shutoffs through the month of October, so posting regularly has been challenging. The most recent of which left me with no electricity or internet for the last five days across two windstorms. Stressssss.

Anyway, will be posting again soon, but needing to decompress a little before getting back into the normal routine. Hope you're all well! ♥

Seems like a necessary post to make at some point. How about now? Lol.

So, I mostly keep these things separate, but if you also use reddit's /r/kpop it's probably not a secret that I'm a moderator there. I use the same username everywhere. Since the end of January, we've been covering this massive Seungri, Jung Joon Young, Burning Sun, molka, corruption, etc, scandal. It has taken a huge amount of work from our mod team to stay on top of it. It's the primary reason I've been a little slower with updating KPOPPY recently.

As of the time posting this, we're up to our sixteenth megathread and this thing looks like it's just going to keep going and going and going.

Trigger warning if you don't know about this stuff and start clicking through. Be careful. Sexual assault is a significant facet of these stories.

Kim Jonghyun of SHINee has passed away.

[ADMIN] A smoke-laden update

FYI, I'm in Northern California. KPOPPY is named thusly for our lovely California poppies around here. Since the middle of the night on Sunday, I have been in the eye of a firestorm that has massively destroyed significant areas of the place I've called home for 31 years. I am insanely lucky to still have my house. Many of my friends had only minutes warning to flee their homes before they burned down behind them. I was without power/internet for a while and shifting around to safe areas.

I'm one of the fortunate few to be safely in my home again, but the region is still burning and things could change at a moment's notice. Doing a big update while I can right now (grateful for something 'normal' to do), but I can't guarantee I'll be as on top of things for another week or two. Glad to still be with you.

[ADMIN] Happy Chuseok!

This will be a slow release week due to the Chuseok holiday. The Kpop subreddit has a nice post compiling lots of Chuseok greetings from many groups/artists. Whether you celebrate or not, let your family or chosen family know you love them. Eat some good food if it's available to you. Put some good into the world to counteract the bad. Much love to you.

[ADMIN] Quick note on re-naming groups and tags...

This has happened before, but it happened in quick succession recently, so I'll mention it.

The artist VASCO is now going by the name Bill Stax.
The group KMUCH is now going by the name Be.A.
The group formerly known as Beast (5 out of 6 of them anyway) has left Cube and will use the name HIGHLIGHT.

Not that I have a really amazing tag system or anything, but I try to keep things logical. My intention will be to continue tagging these artists with both names into the future. The exception would be if Cube re-makes Beast... then I'll only tag Highlight as Highlight. The precedent for that being TVXQ and JYJ. I don't tag TVXQ on JYJ stuff anymore, because TVXQ is still a thing and they are distinctively separate groups.

Not that these are super-important things. Just putting this here for clarification... and also as a reminder to myself. Lol.

[ADMIN] Yep, KPOPPY is down...

Sorry about that. I get a very slow and steady amount of traffic to the KPOPPY site and blog with very limited bandwidth needs. But there was a sudden and unexplained spike just over the last couple days.

Edit: It's back up now! Yay! I'll leave the graphs in the full post for the lulz.
