[MV] Beast - YeY

Whoa... there's a lot happening in that chorus. I think it works still.
Hyunseung is going for some kind of a record on the weird hair choices... and it's spreading! Lol.

[MV] Kunogoon (feat. Sohyang, Taibian) - Timing

[MV] Tiger JK - I Know

[MV] TVXQ - Rise As One (Changmin solo)

Crying from this one. Oof.
Glad Changmin is getting a beautiful finale before he enlists.

[MV] TVXQ - Champagne (Yunho solo)

A little all over the place with this one, but Yunho always had an affinity for the dramatic. Lol.
Serve well, dude.

[MV] WANNA.B - Attention

I'm going to call this their debut. They put an MV out last December, but they had a membership change and have been promoting in China.

[MV] Stellar - Vibrato

Uh... NSFW. Pretty much what we expect from Stellar now.

Verrrrrry mixed feelings about this. Super uncomfortable not knowing how these women feel about doing these concepts.
If they're cool with it... fine.
If they're not cool with it... holy exploitation batman.

[MV] Super Junior - Devil

Don't know the full story, but we were expecting a 19+ video. Supposedly SME edited this cleaner version for the main release. No idea if we'll get another version.
Saw a concert performance before the MV and loved the dance. Very cheeky. But this narrative is all over the place. Not sure what's going on. The only thing sticking with me is Yesung in a floppy top hat. Lol.

No noticeably awkward English, which is somewhat remarkable. Always seems to happen when I otherwise completely love the track.
Might be one of my favorite SuJu songs ever!

EDIT: SM posted the performance video a week later! Yay! I love the dance.

[MV] Apink - Remember

Really beautifully edited video. Good pacing.
The song is a bit lackluster, but the choreography looks cute.

It's extremely unusual for me to not adore an Infinite single. Like... I'm not sure if it has ever happened. I think my issue is that it doesn't have the kind of epic hook and melody that I've come to expect and love from every major release. It's okay. Just strikes me as sounding less like Infinite than normal.

[MV] GOT7 - Just Right

The 'you're beautiful just the way you are' message, especially delivered by a bunch of pretty boy idols... in a culture with super narrow beauty standards... will always feel condescending and/or insulting to me. Lmao.

I appreciate the positive intention though. The MV itself is visually playful, so that's fun.

Much closer to the video quality you'd expect from SME. Pretty colors.
Not far off from being a remake of Katy Perry's California Gurls.
The focus on Sunny's chest was a little ridiculous, but that's my only complaint.

[MV] Girl's Day - RING MY BELL

Eek. Not a positive reaction to this one. Strangely disjointed sets and awkward/cheap styling. And the token black guy with a wig is just all sorts of whhhhhyyyyyyyy.

Catchy, but buried in cluttered noise. Oh dear.

[MV] TAKE - Rainy Day

[MV] Sung Soo Jin, Nam Young Joo - I'm Fine

A duet of K-POP STAR contestants season 2 and 3.

[MV] REX.D - The BAD

REX.D has been diagnosed with leukemia. Terrible news. Got this MV filmed and worked on an album, but promos and another MV are obviously halted for treatment. Wishing all the best for him.

[MV] 4TEN - Go Easy

Song's not terrible. Weirded out by the video though. Sexually conning and pick-pocketing and car-thieving some  'foreigners' and then YAY SPARKLERS AND DANCING!

4TEN lost two girls and gained three since their last promos. And now their company is calling them POTEN, so I'll tag them as both now.

[MV] MINX - Love Shake

[MV] 9MUSES - Hurt Locker

Unexpectedly a jam! Stands out compared to the other girl group summer comebacks.
Really dig the location and cinematic shipping container shots. Very memorable.

[PLAYLIST] KPOPPY's first half of 2015

Figured I'd make a playlist of the MVs that caught my eye for the first half of the year. Many of which will be contenders for my end of the year 'eclectic mix'. It was very slow-going for the first few months and the most interesting stuff, for me, has been of the non-idol variety. Still waiting for a mainstream group to do something that completely knocks my socks off. We'll see!
