[MV] Jimin (BTS) - Who (Eng.)

The usual BigHit vocal production nit-pick, but I quite like the song and the choreo is killer. Just love watching Jimin move. The rest of the album is pretty solid, too. Need to listen more.

[MV] JIMIN (BTS) (feat. Loco) - Smeraldo Garden Marching Band

Pre-release ahead of his 2nd solo album. Love the vibe and instrumental. The track has that BigHit vocal production I don't love, but it's not too bad. The big group dancing shots are great and Loco is cute in there. So far seems like this album will be brighter/happier compared to 'FACE'. Looking forward to it!

[OST] Jimin (BTS), JVKE, Muni Long, Charlie Puth - Angel Pt.1 (Eng.)

From the 'FAST X' movie soundtrack (Fast & Furious franchise).

Not happy with all the collaborators on this, but that's how these big soundtracks go. Jimin and Muni Long sound the best on the track despite the heavy compression. Actually quite like the melody and lyrics in the chorus. Wish it was a vocalist-only song.

Update: Replaced with the vocal-only version that was released later. Would've liked more Jimin, but Puth is preferable to the rap parts in the original. I'll put that under the cut.

[MV] Jimin (BTS) - Like Crazy

So it's kind of a jam! Comin' outta nowhere with my fave 80s synthpop sound.

Thanking my lucky stars I can happily listen to Jimin's album. 'Set Me Free Pt.2' is the only one with the autotune/vocal production I can't stand. Everything else is okay. The compression is still there a bit, but the reverb is counteracting the effect. Really like his album. Nice little intro to Jimin as a soloist. My favorite track is 'Alone', which probably has the most raw vocal sound. I also like the hidden track 'Letter', which has some background vocals from Jungkook on it. The album is all very moody and apparently inspired by how depressed he was during the pandemic. Understandable for a passionate stage performer. :(

[MV] JIMIN (BTS) - Set Me Free Pt.2

Pre-release before the title track and album are out next week.

Tale as old as time. Love everything but the vocal production. The choir and instrumental are super fire. And I love how Jimin sounds when not auto-tuned to hell and back. Trying to not get my hopes up too high for the rest of the album since I think the main BigHit vocal production culprits are all over the credits, but maybe I'll get a song or two out of it that have more natural vocals. 🙏

The dancing though. THE DANCING THOUGH. Heaven.

[MV] TAEYANG (feat. JIMIN) - VIBE

Big warning!! Heavy strobing/flashing lights throughout.

Was pretty excited about this since Taeyang was mostly the only BIGBANG member I was interested in for music and performance. And then I'm a big fan of Jimin. It's a fun straightforward pop song. Not super interesting, but it's pleasant. Surreal to see a 2nd and 3rd gen idol, not in the same company, do a collab like this.

The MV though... I can barely watch for the chaotic lights. Bummer. Only got a short dance challenge video, but I'd really love a dance practice. Not gonna hold my breath, but 🙏

[MV] benny blanco, BTS & Snoop Dogg - Bad Decisions (Eng.)

Only BTS's vocal line: Jin, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.
Lyric video is more fun, imo. Very typical benny blanco so it sounds like a bunch of other hits he worked on. Nothing groundbreaking, but it has been stuck in my head for three days.

[MV] Lauv (feat. Jimin & Jungkook) - Who

Barely counts as an MV. Lol. I'm clinging to this song since there's minimal vocal processing on Jimin and Jungkook's voices relative to BTS's albums. It's a relief. And I love the way those two sound together. Wish it was longer.

[MV] BTS (Jimin) - Serendipity : LOVE YOURSELF 承 Her

Please watch this. It's an experience worth having. It has subtitles in English (thanks, BigHit!), but I recommend just watching and listening once through first, then turning them on.

For the uninitiated, this is Jimin. He's a vocalist and (amazing) dancer in BTS. Typically BigHit takes the intro track of the album to make the 'Comeback Trailer'. The equivalent from the WINGS era was 'Boy Meets Evil', the album's intro track featuring only J-Hope rapping (and dancing). It features one member of the group and sets the concept/theme for the comeback. Serendipity is the first time one of the vocal-line in BTS did the intro. It has always been the rappers before.

Just like 'Save Me' was a bit ahead of the Tropical House curve in terms of Kpop picking up trends in western music, this one is tapping into some of the more spare/organic sounding R&B that's pretty current. Compare to Kendrick Lamar's 'LOVE'.

Y'all know I watch a lot of videos. It takes something incredibly special to earn my highest praise.
Serendipity has all of it.
The video is a masterwork. LUMPENS continues to be my favorite director team working in Kpop. The chill track is lovely. Above all, it is the sensitive vocal production that has me trembling. I'm full of thoughts about this whole piece. I'll just put them in the full post to avoid more clutter.
