[MV] Red Velvet - Dumb Dumb

Well, that's rather meta.
One of those 'more video than song' kind of releases. Interesting vocals.

SM is definitely carrying through the RED/VELVET contrast. The album just released is The Red. Mostly upbeat, happy, bright songs like Happiness and Ice Cream Cake. A future release of The Velvet will certainly be more of the R&B slow jams a la Be Natural and Automatic.

  1. This song and video is so great, and I'm blown away by how awesome this group has become in such a short time since their debut last year. They already had my favourite k-pop mini album of the year and song with "Ice Cream Cake", but this new album forces me to reconsider everything. Most of the songs are outright jams.

"Dumb Dumb" keeps getting better and better on repeat listens. The energy and enthusiasm is infectious. I've pretty much had the album on a loop since release and the songs are stuck in my head whenever I'm not listening. lol Songs like "Huff n Puff", "Red Dress", and "Don't U Wait No More" are all excellent.

The mv is super polished and gorgeously produced. It looks like not a dime was spared on outfits, sets, and cool visual effects. Though I wouldn't expect anything less from SM, this mv just felt bigger and more impressive than I expected. I'm also super impressed with their choreography (which looks exhausting), and their live performances have been very fun.

The biggest complaint I've seen in comments about the song is because of the Michael Jackson section, but even that I found to be fun and a charming tribute to a music icon who continues to inspire k-pop artists left and right.

I honestly can't wait to hear The Velvet album. Their slower R&B songs have also been equally great, and I love the throwback 90's sound in songs like "Automatic".

    1. SM has clearly gone ALL-IN on Red Velvet as their iconic new girl group, which is pretty intriguing. This is probably in my top 5 favorite SM videos. It's really well-crafted. Also like the choreo, but I'll always love when girl groups get to fully move without being limited by high heels. And committing to the bubbly pop for a whole album is a bold move conceptually.

Definitely interested to see what The Velvet will become. That's more my personal taste, so I hope it turns out great. Love me some R&B jams!
